Well, at least they've got the best law porn
http://money-law.blogspot.com/2008/10/and-winner-of-best-law-porn-award-is.html

If it's as convincing to everyone voting right around now they may just displace Vandy in the rankings this year. (and if US news includes part timers in as rumored then they may even join Vandy, Texas and USC in beating G-Town. Man, all those Hoya Lawyas would be pissed about the sudden rankings drop.)

Yeah, USC was a shocker, but you were right not to be convinced.
The depth in the Big 12 really is amazing. The OSU game is going to be a real bitch- I think they're criminally under rated, and you're probably right about K State as well. A&M shouldn't be a problem at all- but they'll be a bit more than a speedbump, and playing in college station makes that game three times the risk it would be in Norman.
The rest of the schedule really makes it so that there isn't a week that can be taken for granted at home, let alone on the road.
Thank goodness we won't see Mizzou during the regular season.

No doubt about that, huh? What with the events of last night, it's pretty clear that meaningful college football happens east of the Rockies and south of the Mason-Dixon line. Other than the OU game, I'm most excited to see how Nebraska looks and how the UGA-Bama game comes out. Good day for the game.

With OU's schedule, it should also be noted that Tech is coming to Norman, which is a very good thing. So the road schedule is pretty light, but that will still include trips to Kansas State and Oklahoma State, which will not be easy. Doesn't look like A&M will be all that tough a trip this year, but that one can always be a problem. Don't look now, but next year's road schedule will include trips to Miami, Texas Tech, Kansas, and Nebraska.....ouch.

Sooners have got two weeks in a row that will be harder than anyone was probably expecting before the season started, and after that the season really gets started. Holy crap the conference is good this year. I don't think there are going to be any easy games- at least the Kansas and Nebraska games are in Norman.

Wasn't on TV, actually. Probably a good thing I didn't see it, huh? I don't think this tells us anything that an informed observer shouldn't have known already. UCLA is headed in the right direction, but there's a real talent disparity in most confrontations with the big boys and a cultural change that is not yet complete. This was much more a Karl Dorrell game than a Rick Neuheisel game, and the biggest challenge is going to be keeping the guys afloat so that they can punch above their weight a little bit.

As for BYU, we learned that they can shred a team that can't move the ball and hit back. Good stuff and an impressive performance, but Utah will be a much tougher test. The UCLA game didn't make me forget that they were in a dogfight with a team that an elite Oklahoma team humiliated. So UCLA is in fact rebuilding, and BYU is in fact a top 20 and not top 10 kind of team.

Yes, the situation becomes more disturbing every single day. I can't help but worry a lot of the time. But nobody listens to the academics anymore. Even the people in the field with whom I disagree most stridently have some interesting observations that would really help us out if translated into policy. I think this is another consequence of Idiocracy: what the smart people want to do is, inevitably, much more than the dumbs can understand, and so eventually we just define the intellectual elite out of the conversation.

I was actually thinking the same thing about possible nuke war being good for evolution. Even if a post apocalyptic world did not necessarily select for intellectuals, at least it would select for SOMETHING. As it is, it is just who can spray what fluid where.

Speaking of nuke war, this ought to incite some worry

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/americas/7609577.stm

Cold war 2 is going to be a hell of a lot more interesting than cold war 1. Does this kind of thing ever make you think that you should try to get an advisory job or something? You actually could make a difference here if anyone would listen, and you could publish 2 or 3 papers on nuclear issues during baseball season alone if you just typed instead of played castlevania or whatever.

I would totally hole up with Cam Willie. In the event of an actual nuclear war, it's pretty likely that his political views would be more relevant than my own. Plus, I think we'd be a pretty devastating survival team. I can show us how to avoid nonliving hazards and Cam can destroy all other forms of opposition.

You want a real 50/50 shot even while living where you know you aren't able to adequately prepare no matter what reasonable amount you spend?

Fund Cam Willie on the condition you get a spot in the shelter. He'd likely already know what to do- but he'd be willing to listen to any instructions/suggestions. You'd be holed up with a John Bircher- but you'd be well stocked and well armed.
